The story behind the look
At a pre-Wimbledon photoshoot on 20 June 1963, Pericoli showed a princess-line dress with petal-shaped cutouts. The contemporary caption described it as a proposed doubles look for Pericoli and Silvana Lazzarino. It identifies the fabric as Tricel, a synthetic textile.
The dress’s continuous shaped panels widen into a short, plain skirt. It was presented beneath a transparent organza cape decorated with gold laurel wreaths. Here the dress is reconstructed on its own, preserving the distinction between the cutout garment and its theatrical outer layer.
