Gold rings and pearls

The story behind the look

At a London press preview on 22 June 1970, Pericoli modelled a flared shift from Ted Tinling’s tennis-wear collection. The event took place at the Belvedere Restaurant in Holland Park. The photograph shows Pericoli on the left, beside fellow player Carol Kalogeropoulos.

The contemporary caption identifies Dacron fabric, finely pleated trim and gold-and-pearl decoration. Small circular ornaments sit around the neckline, echoed by a larger chain of rings above the pleated hem. The long, simple torso leaves the decorative work at the dress’s edges.
