Venus Williams · 1998
One of seven
A red cutout dress from a wardrobe planned for seven rounds.
The story behind the look
Williams arrived in New York in 1998 with a different dress planned for every round. This red version combined a simple tank neckline with a more daring waist: white-edged cutouts opened at the sides and continued around the back.
The covered front kept the silhouette readable as a dress, while movement revealed its unusual construction. That cutout became a recognisable feature of her Reebok wardrobe. The photograph documents the 1998 tournament without establishing a specific round.
