The story behind the look

Sharapova’s 2007 Paris dress belongs to the experimental period of her Nike partnership. Looking back in a 2014 SELF interview, she recalled this Mediterranean-blue design and its mesh overlay among the distinctive outfits created for her earlier career.

The transparent outer layer softens the colour beneath it and moves independently around the low waist and hem. Tournament photographs also show the dress worn over black cropped leggings; this reconstruction presents the dress itself.
