The story behind the look

Williams called this custom Nike design her “Serena-tard”. The green short romper used black-and-white stripes down the centre front and across the waist, with an open-back detail described in contemporary coverage.

She wore it for her first-round victory over Tatjana Maria. Fishnet tights completed the original styling; the reconstruction isolates the striped competition garment.
