The story behind the look

Serena’s 2003 Melbourne look combined orange-and-white colour blocking with a single rhinestone-covered shoulder strap. Its contrasting trim and slender hip tie gave the performance garment an unusually decorative finish.

She won her first Australian Open title that year. The reconstruction records the white-skirted version in the photograph; the unphotographed rear is inferred.
